Helping the kids learn the basics

About one week after I accepted, I had the privilege to talk with the executive director, Robyn, of the Bangla Hope orphanage. We talked for nearly two hours from the geographics of the country itself to the detailed information about the orphanage. The first thing Robyn asked me was if I played any types of instruments. I was cautious to say that I played the piano. Growing up my parents really wanted my brother and I to pick up some kind of instrument; whether that be piano, guitar, violin, flute, trumpet, you name it, ANYTHING. I started playing piano at a very young age but didn’t really get into it until I was about 12 years old. I have never been really good at reading notes and disliked practicing, meaning that I really wasn’t the best student nor performer, nevertheless, I stayed with it, hoping I would one day become a Bachess, magically. Well, that never happened. To this day, I enjoy learning different songs with chords, but nothing more. After that Robyn asked me if I would help teach the kids.  I said I would have to get back to him, all my years of neglecting practices made me unsure of my abilities. After a few days of considerable thought, I said yes. I will be helping the kids learn the basics of how to play piano, which I can do.
